The Earthen Frame

In The Earthen Frame, an oil on paper abstract painting, I set out to explore how natural boundaries and raw geological tones can frame an open, atmospheric core. Working directly with oil pigments on paper, I allowed the tactile quality of the medium to guide the composition, building layers that feel both grounded and expansive. Rich, earthy browns and deep rusts wrap around the perimeter in structural, gestural strokes, acting almost like a natural threshold or frame. This rugged border gives way to soft, luminous washes of peach and warm cream at the center, creating a striking sense of depth and airiness. Across the lower portion and upper corners, vibrant shades of green emerge, introducing a quiet botanical energy that echoes the textures of organic terrain. Ultimately, this piece is an exploration of space, enclosure, and the raw interplay between earth-bound boundaries and open light.
