In Redshift Anomaly, an oil on paper abstract painting, I sought to explore the tension between deep, expanding cosmic fields and sudden structural disruptions. Working directly with oil pigments on paper allowed me to build rich, opaque layers alongside more translucent passages, capturing a sense of movement across space.
Dominating the left side, a vast, intense field of fiery red and deep crimson stretches downward, shifting through subtle magenta undertones that create a powerful sense of atmospheric heat. On the right, a striking block of luminous turquoise and electric blue breaks the warmth, introducing an abrupt, cool contrast that anchors the composition. Across this expanse, sharp horizontal strokes of bright blue cut like data or light signatures across the red background, while smaller dashes of crimson punctuate the blue field. Through this deliberate clash of opposing temperatures and expressive brushwork, I wanted to evoke a celestial anomaly—a moment where light and velocity warp our perception of distance and form.
