With The Romantic Tide, I wanted to capture the rhythmic, overwhelming pull of deep passion and affection, much like an ocean current sweeping everything in its path.
The composition is built on a rich, saturated foundation of crimson and vibrant reds, evoking a sense of raw warmth and intensity. Sweeping across this fiery field are textured layers of soft pinks and crisp whites, mimicking the frothy wash of a tide rolling over the shore. Sharp vertical drips cut through the upper blocks, adding a sense of fluid motion and vulnerability.
Working in oil on paper, the thick impasto holds a heavy, tangible texture against the absorbent background. The Romantic Tide is about that absolute immersion in emotion, where the current takes over and leaves you completely swept away.
