With Across the Pond, I wanted to capture the tranquil reflection of lush foliage stretching across the water’s surface, translating a familiar natural landscape into abstract planes of vibrant color.
The composition is built from sweeping, horizontal strokes of rich leaf green and sunny yellow on the left, transitioning into deep aquatic blues and darker green tones on the right. Thick impasto and scraping techniques build a textured topography across the woven fabric, giving the water’s surface a tangible, reflective depth.
Working in oil on canvas, the woven texture grips the heavy layers of paint, emphasizing the organic flow of the piece. Across the Pond is about distance, reflection, and the serene quietude of nature mirrored in motion.
