With this piece, I wanted to capture the dramatic, elemental clash of a fiery atmospheric phenomenon illuminating a shadowed landscape.
The composition is divided between a rich upper field of dusty mauve and glowing crimson punctuated by three vertical, pillar-like forms of blazing red and yellow, anchoring over a turbulent foreground of cool greens and icy teals. Thick, impasto brushstrokes and aggressive palette knife scrapes drag across the surface, creating a bold rhythm of vertical gestures and layered textures that draw the viewer straight into the burning expanse.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Fire in the Sky is about that arresting moment when the natural world erupts in a brilliant, fiery display against the gathering dusk.
