With this piece, I wanted to capture the stark, decisive finality of a message rejected and sent back, unread and unaccepted.
The composition is divided into serene, horizontal planes of pale sky blue, muted lavender, and lush grassy greens, abruptly slashed from above by three thin, dripping vertical lines of vivid crimson red. Smooth, horizontal squeegee drags establish a calm, landscape-like tranquility, which is violently interrupted by the sharp, downward streaks of blood-red paint that bleed into the lower horizon, drawing the viewer straight into the jarring contrast.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Return to Sender is about that uncompromising boundary—a quiet landscape forever marked by the refusal to accept what was delivered.
