In My Girl, I wanted to translate the warm, romantic sunshine, sweet optimism, and classic soul melody of the iconic song onto paper.
The composition framed at top by sunlit golden-yellow and warm cream washes opens into a central horizon of soft violet, pink blush, and pale sky blue, accented by tiny flicks of crimson red. Below, rich sweeps of forest green, olive, and deep teal ground the landscape, creating a harmonious, melodic rhythm of blooming color and bright daydreams that pulls the viewer straight into that feeling of having sunshine on a cloudy day.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. My Girl is about pure warmth and devotion—where affection feels as effortless and bright as a favorite song.
