With Dangerous Attraction, I wanted to capture the volatile, magnetic pull between opposing forces—the comfort of the familiar colliding with the thrilling risk of the unknown.
The lower half is built on a soft, tranquil gradient of sandy peach and delicate pink, representing stability and warmth. But this calm is aggressively challenged from above by heavy textures of deep cobalt and slate blues, dragging down like a cold front.
The core tension lies in the vertical slashes: a solitary, piercing turquoise line cuts cold and deep into the background, while on the right, frantic crimson strokes tear downward. These contrasting forces create a violent, beautiful visual friction.
Working in oil on paper allowed me to emphasize this duality. The absorbent paper acts as a fragile foundation, marked and wounded by the thick, raised impasto of the aggressive reds and blues. Dangerous Attraction is a snapshot of that exact second of collision, and the chaotic beauty that follows.
