In Glacier in Twilight, an oil on paper abstract painting, I sought to capture the quiet, shifting transition between heavy frozen formations and the warm, fading light of dusk. Working directly with oil pigments on paper allowed me to explore a dynamic interplay between thick, structural impasto and soft, luminous washes.
Dominating the composition are bold strokes of deep slate blue, icy white, and brilliant cobalt that sweep diagonally across the surface, evoking the monumental presence of ancient glacial ice. Interwoven through these cool tones are glowing streaks of soft yellow and warm peach, while the lower and right registers dissolve into hazy gradients of amber and dusty rose. Through this deliberate contrast of rugged, frozen textures and the gentle warmth of twilight, I wanted to convey a sense of atmospheric stillness—a frozen landscape gently yielding to the embrace of evening.
