With Pillars of Silence, I wanted to capture the quiet strength of steadfast structures standing firm against a shifting, expressive background.
The composition is grounded by bold, vertical red columns that anchor the center of the piece, rising through fields of pale mint green and soft blue. Surrounding these steady forms are sweeping gestures of warm beige, muted gold, and rich crimson that create a sense of enclosed space and contemplative stillness.
Working in oil on paper, the thick impasto holds a heavy, raised texture against the absorbent, matte background. Pillars of Silence is about that deep, unyielding composure found in quiet moments when everything else around us is in motion.
