With this piece, I wanted to capture the total, overwhelming surrender to passion, intensity, and unfiltered emotion when a single dominant hue completely consumes the canvas.
The composition is submerged in an all-encompassing, visceral wave of deep crimson, magenta, and rich ruby red, punctuated near the lower right by a solitary scrape revealing fleeting glimpse of white and pale yellow underlayers. Sweeping diagonal knife drags and heavy, sculpted impasto ridges crush across the paper, creating an aggressive, high-energy rhythm of overlapping speed marks and dense paint buildup that pulls the viewer straight into the heat of the red tide.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Red Took Over is about the point of no return—where restraint breaks down and pure color claims absolute authority over the space.
