In Slapped by Will Smith, I wanted to capture the sudden, violent jolt and surreal, jaw-dropping shock of an unexpected hit—a moment where culture and chaos collide in an instant.
The composition is split diagonally by a dark, smoky horizon of muted grey, taupe, and bruised plum, slashed open across the center by a blinding streak of white, hot pink, and crimson blood red. Across the foreground, chaotic impasto strokes of electric green and deep foliage tones crash upward into a swirl of burning red and raw black streaks, creating a violent, disorienting rhythm of impact marks and friction trails that pull the viewer straight into the sting of the collision.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Slapped by Will Smith is about that split-second rupture where prestige collapses into pure, unscripted frenzy.
