With this piece, I wanted to capture the rapid-fire blur, fleeting sparks, and rushed transitions of sizing up potential connections in three-minute intervals.
The composition is split into fast horizontal bands, anchoring the lower half in an intense field of lipstick red and crimson that scrapes into bright yellow undertones, while the upper region shifts through muted pale greens, butter yellow, and misty grey-white. Broad, swift squeegee drags and scraped impasto layers collide across the paper, creating a high-velocity, restless rhythm of swift glances and quick impressions that pulls the viewer straight into the fast-paced rotation.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Speed Dating is about the rush of first impressions—where chemistry is tested in seconds and the next move is always just around the corner.
