With this piece, I wanted to evoke the eerie, hollow silence and brooding atmosphere of a long-abandoned dwelling standing solitary against a darkening sky.
The composition anchors around a central, triangular gable-like silhouette rendered in stark crimson and deep, shadowy outlines, floating above a dark horizon line and a vibrant, unnerving expanse of acidic chartreuse and neon-green grass below. Thick, impasto brushstrokes and aggressive palette knife scrapes carve through bruised plum, navy, and slate-grey upper tones, creating a haunting, heavy-textured rhythm of abandonment and isolation that draws the viewer straight into the doorway of the deserted structure.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. The Empty House is about the heavy weight of absence—where forgotten walls echo with the quiet ghosts of what used to be.
