With Static Horizon, I wanted to examine the tension between stillness and underlying friction, capturing that boundary where atmosphere meets ground in an abstract space. Working on this 9″x12″ canvas panel with oil, I applied dense, horizontal strata of pigment, allowing deep navy and dark charcoal tones to weigh against fierce bursts of electric yellow, vibrant coral, and rich crimson.
The surface texture reflects a deliberate push and pull—scraped layers revealing earlier underpaintings just beneath the grain. This interplay simulates a buzzing, static energy frozen in time, inviting the viewer to look beyond the surface division and feel the kinetic pulse vibrating right along the horizon line.
