With Distant Shores, I wanted to capture the aching, beautiful gap between where we are and where we long to be.
The painting is built across horizontal horizons of bright turquoise and deep crimson red, mimicking the meeting point of water, earth, and sky. Drifting through the upper atmospheric blues are looping, ghostly forms and a series of sharp, downward-dripping white and pink lines that stretch like anchors or rain across the distance.
Working in oil on paper, the thin, delicate marks contrast with the rich, grounded red base. Distant Shores is about that fleeting glimpse of a horizon that feels just out of reach, yet close enough to chase.
