With Watermelon Highway, I wanted to capture the electric rush of a vibrant journey, blending the juicy, organic colors of summer fruit with the kinetic energy of a fast-moving road.
The composition is alive with a striking clash of rich crimson reds, lush lime greens, and deep navy strokes that cut diagonally across the canvas like lanes carved through a landscape. Thick impasto builds a dense, textured topography across the woven fabric, giving the pops of pink, yellow, and white a tangible, physical presence.
Working in oil on canvas, the woven texture grabs the heavy paint application, emphasizing the dynamic motion of the piece. Watermelon Highway is about speed, color, and the exhilarating feeling of moving at full throttle through a vivid world.
