With View from Above, I wanted to capture the breathtaking perspective of soaring across a landscape, where horizons stretch out wide and the world below dissolves into vibrant planes of color and light.
The composition is anchored by a commanding vertical wall of deep blues and rich turquoise on the left, which cuts across expansive fields of lush green, sunny yellow, and a distant, atmospheric horizon. Thick impasto and scraping techniques build a rich, dimensional topography across the board, giving the horizontal strokes and heavy vertical passages a tangible, physical presence.
Working in oil on board, the rigid support allows for forceful layering and smooth pulls of paint that evoke speed and distance. View from Above is about detachment, scale, and the soaring beauty of looking down at the world from a boundless vantage point.
