In The Breakers, I wanted to capture the historic splendor, oceanfront grandeur, and gilded twilight elegance of The Breakers in Palm Beach.
The composition is layered in expansive, atmospheric bands, anchored by a serene soft-blue sky brushed with violet along the top edge, descending into a radiant horizontal wash of rose pink, coral, and warm golden tan. Across the horizon, rich strokes of deep palm green, terracotta red, and shimmering yellow-green ground the coastal resort landscape, creating a sweeping, architectural rhythm of sunset hues and coastal lawn reflections that draw the viewer straight into the iconic Palm Beach shoreline.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. The Breakers is about celebrating timeless luxury and coastal heritage—where gilded-age architecture meets the warm glow of a South Florida twilight.
