With April Showers Bring May Flowers, I wanted to capture the fresh, renewing energy of a landscape waking up after a spring rain.
The composition is grounded by vibrant blocks of lush green and watery mint, crossed by delicate vertical drips of yellow that evoke falling raindrops or stems reaching upward. Above this cool base, soft strokes of warm pink and bright yellow bloom across the surface like petals opening up to the sun.
Working in oil on paper, the thick impasto holds a rich, tangible texture against the absorbent background. April Showers Bring May Flowers is about that patient transition from a nourishing downpour into the bright, colorful burst of new growth.
