In Baby Boomer, I wanted to capture the playful nostalgia and vibrant energy of mid-century optimism anchored in bold, retro hues.
The composition is split between a soft, lavender-violet wash on the left and a lush, saturated magenta field on the right, spliced together by sweeping gestural arcs and three striking, horizontal stripes of pale lemon yellow. Energetic brushstrokes and sweeping tool marks carve across the surface, creating a rhythmic contrast between soft pastel backgrounds and confident, graphic overlays that draw the viewer straight into the scene.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, expressive tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Baby Boomer is about that nostalgic spark of mid-century pop culture, blending structured geometric bars with carefree, expressive color.
