With Big Hair Party, I wanted to capture the playful, exuberant energy of a gathering where individuality and larger-than-life volume take center stage.
The composition is set against a warm, vibrant background of peachy-pink and fiery coral washes. Sweeping across this glowing backdrop are dynamic, sculptural swirls of deep brown and black paint that twist, loop, and pile high like gravity-defying curls and expressive tresses.
Working in oil on canvas, the woven texture grabs the thick impasto strokes, giving the heavy dark masses a tangible, bouncy relief. Big Hair Party is about celebration, movement, and letting loose with absolute flair.
