With ‘First Bloom,’ an oil on paper painting, I wanted to capture the delicate, fresh beginning of a new season as winter gently gives way to life. The lower half of the composition is anchored by a vibrant, soothing field of light green and soft yellow tones, evoking fresh grass and early shoots emerging from the earth.
Above this grounding plane, the upper canvas opens into a serene expanse of soft pinks, pale lavenders, and deep cobalt blue accents. Delicate, vertical lines and subtle drips extend downward across the surface, mirroring the gentle fall of spring rain or the tender stems reaching upward. Through textured impasto applications and smooth washes, I sought to create a tactile and harmonious atmosphere that celebrates the quiet awakening of nature.
