With Liberation of Kuwait, I wanted to capture the emotional crescendo of breaking through a dark period into the bright, hard-won light of freedom and renewal.
The composition is anchored by a deep, heavy block of dark indigo and purple at the base, from which sharp, vertical strokes of electric blue rise up like banners piercing through a haze. Above this transition, sweeping washes of sun-bleached peach, warm amber, and soft violet stretch across the canvas, evoking the breaking dawn over a desert horizon.
Working in oil on paper, the thick impasto holds a heavy, raised presence against the absorbent, matte background. Liberation of Kuwait is about that monumental shift from restriction to expansive, luminous space.
