With The Inner Sanctum, I wanted to explore the idea of a hidden, protected space deep within the mind, translating a sense of enclosure and private sanctuary into a striking layered composition.
The canvas is anchored by a dark, moody chamber framed above by vibrant fields of red and bright turquoise, and grounded below by intense blocks of crimson and hot pink. Vertical pillars and thin drips of paint slice through the center like structural boundaries or a veil guarding a sacred space.
Working in oil on canvas, the woven fabric grips the thick impasto and heavy layers, giving the contrasting planes a tangible, physical weight. The Inner Sanctum is about introspection, sanctuary, and the protected depths of the inner world.
