There is something timeless about the sea—an ancient force that remembers every voyage, every storm, and every secret carried beneath its surface. With Black Salt Ritual, I wanted to create a painting that feels as though it emerged from those forgotten waters, where myth and memory become impossible to separate.
The deep blacks suggest weathered timber, shadowed horizons, and the remnants of long-abandoned ships, while the glowing emerald center represents a mysterious energy rising from the depths. Crimson passages cut through the composition like fire reflecting across restless water, hinting at rituals performed under moonlit skies and the unseen power that lingers long after the flames have faded.
Rather than illustrating a specific story, I wanted this painting to invite your imagination into its own. Every texture, scrape, and layer of paint was applied intuitively, allowing the composition to evolve as though guided by forces beyond my control. The thick impasto and palette knife work preserve each decision, giving the surface a physical history that mirrors the mysterious narrative beneath it.
For me, Black Salt Ritual is about the allure of the unknown—the places we cannot explain, the legends that refuse to disappear, and the quiet feeling that some mysteries are meant to remain unsolved. I hope each time you return to this painting, it reveals another fragment of its story, inviting you to discover something new hidden within its depths.
