In Passage to the Inner Sanctuary, an oil on paper abstract painting, I sought to explore the emotional and visual journey of moving inward, passing through outer thresholds toward a place of quiet reflection. Working directly with oil pigments on paper allowed me to embrace the tactile nature of the medium, building layered, sweeping gestures that feel both protective and revealing.
Rich, deep magentas and dusty rose tones frame the outer edges in looping, structural strokes, creating a sense of a sheltered boundary or gateway. As the eye moves deeper into the composition, these heavy perimeter lines give way to soft, luminous washes of pale blue, muted gray, and creamy white at the core. Through this interplay of bold impasto framing and an open, radiant center, I wanted to capture the feeling of discovering a hidden inner space—a sanctuary of stillness and light amid the complexity of our inner landscape.
