With Subliminal Message, I wanted to explore communication that bypasses conscious thought, lingering just below the threshold of awareness.
The composition is built on soothing, pastel blocks of creamy yellow, mint green, dusty rose, and lavender, applied with thick, heavy impasto. These soft transitions create an atmospheric calm, but the true focal point is a sharp, vibrant slash of yellow cutting aggressively across the lavender mass—a sudden, disruptive intrusion demanding attention without explanation.
Working in oil on paper allowed the raised impasto to contrast against the matte, absorbent surface. This texture mirrors the concept itself: ideas that feel substantial and permanent, yet stem from an elusive source. Subliminal Message captures that fleeting instant before a thought fully forms.
