With War Crimes, I wanted to confront the visceral chaos, devastation, and human toll of conflict, translating the raw shock of destruction into an aggressive, fragmented composition of clashing colors.
The canvas is dominated by sweeping floods of intense crimson and deep reds, torn across by stark horizons of bright cerulean blue, dark industrial tones, and fractured accents of yellow and pink. Thick impasto and heavily scraped layers build a rugged, uneven topography across the woven fabric, giving the violent strokes and jagged passages a heavy, tangible weight.
Working in oil on canvas, the woven texture grips the dense application of paint, emphasizing the raw, uncontained energy of the piece. War Crimes is about conflict, systemic trauma, and the haunting gravity of violence left behind.
