In A River Runs Through It, I wanted to capture the dynamic, living movement of a pristine wilderness stream cutting through vibrant, sunlit riverbanks.
The composition is anchored by a sweeping, deep cobalt-blue current that cuts horizontally across the canvas, flanked by lush, textured fields of emerald greens and pale, atmospheric teals above and below. Thick, impasto brushstrokes and energetic knife scrapes build a turbulent rhythm of crisp white foam and layered undertows, pulling the viewer straight into the pulse of the water.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, expressive tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. A River Runs Through It is about that electrifying rush of standing waist-deep in a flowing current, utterly immersed in the untamed energy of the natural world.
