In Braveheart (one of my favorite movies), I wanted to capture the fierce defiance, raw passion, and visceral spirit of high-stakes conflict, channeling the epic energy of a favorite cinematic classic onto the paper.
The composition centers around a massive, helmet-like block of intense magenta, crimson, and deep wine red, anchored over dark burgundy shadow and framed by mist-like sweeps of pale sage green, icy blue, and crisp white. Heavy, sculptural impasto application and aggressive knife work gouge through the paint layers, creating a bruised, battle-tested rhythm of war paint, iron, and mist-laden highlands that draws the viewer straight into the heart of the charge.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Braveheart is about unyielding conviction—where blood, honor, and passion collide on an open field.
