In Almost Finished, I wanted to capture the anticipatory tension of a creative journey hovering right on the edge of realization.
The composition is centered around deep, moody fields of burgundy and shadowed browns punctuated by luminous flashes of burning yellow, mimicking the glowing embers of a project taking its final shape. Thick, impasto brushstrokes and aggressive palette knife scraping pull across the surface, creating a structured, architectural rhythm of overlapping planes that draw the viewer straight into the friction of completion.
Working in oil on paper, the absorbent texture grounds the heavy paint layers while allowing the rough, energetic tool marks to stand out with raw intensity. Almost Finished is about that electrifying rush of standing at the threshold, watching disparate elements snap together into a unified whole.
