With The Dying Rose, a 9×12 inch oil on paper painting, I wanted to explore the delicate threshold between vibrancy and decay. Through this painting, I sought to capture the raw, emotional weight of a blossom losing its structural integrity, utilizing expressive, textured strokes and contrasting colors.
Created as an original oil on paper painting measuring 9×12 inches, the piece features a central, dense mass of vivid pinks and magentas representing the fading flower, which is juxtaposed against deep, moody blacks, slate blues, and pale luminous yellows in the background. I applied heavy impasto brushwork and dynamic scraping techniques to give the oil medium a tactile, visceral quality that echoes the organic weathering of petals.
