With Wayback Playback, I wanted to capture the fuzzy, vibrant nostalgia of turning back the clock and reliving old memories through a technicolor haze.
The composition is alive with contrasting blocks of deep oceanic blues, vibrant pinks, and lime greens, layered around a central glowing white form. Bold blue vertical strokes cut through the pink field like tracks on an old magnetic tape, while rounded geometric outlines frame the space with a playful, retro energy.
Working in oil on paper, the thick impasto holds a tactile, raised presence against the absorbent, textured background. Wayback Playback is about that joyful, slightly distorted loop of memory where the past feels as bright and vivid as ever.
